The Centre for the Study of Democratic Citizenship presents:
Thursday April 23rd 2015
Prof. Peter John (University College London):
Room 517 Leacock Building, McGill University
9:30 am – 11:30 pm
“Field experiments and randomized controlled trials: practical issues of design” Workshop.
Field experiments have become central in recent years to both social science and policy evaluation. Experiments allow researchers and practitioners to cleanly identify the effect of policies, from the small scale (e.g. the design of a web page), up to the massive (national government interventions in health, education and welfare), and in fields from voting behaviour to charitable giving and conflict prevention. This course gives an overview of the whole process of implementing field experiments, from design, to running, to statistical evaluation of the results. Both practical and theoretical issues are dealt with, including ethical issues; negotiating with partners and delivering experiments; and dealing with attrition.
