The Centre invites applications for a new competition of flex grants. Flex grants are aimed at supporting Centre members in research tasks or knowledge mobilization activities that do not have any other source of funding. All full members and postdoctoral researchers are eligible to apply.
Applications can vary between $500 and $5,000. The maximum Flex grant amount for postdoctoral fellows is limited to $2,500. Select members of the steering committee evaluate the applications, which are chosen on a competitive basis.
The below conditions have to be met:
(1) Expenditures need to fit into the rules of the FRQSC regroupement (see below).
(2) The same project can’t be funded twice by any types of Centre grants.
Committee members will also use the following criteria to help make decisions on a competitive basis:
(3) How does the grant benefit the Centre or help increase the Centre’s visibility in Canada and abroad?
(4) Is there evidence that other sources of funding have been pursued or are not suitable or not sufficient for this purpose?
Note that eligible expenses under FRQSC rules include travel, graduate student stipends, hiring research professionals and technicians, administrative support and equipment purchases. Subject payments and research assistants are not eligible.
Flex grants can be used for research travel, but not for conference travel.
Applications are reviewed four times per year: February 15, April 15, August 15 and November 15. Please send your application into a single PDF file containing all the sections of the application by email to email@example.com.
Applications must contain the following information:
- Name of all applicants
- University affiliation of all applicants
- E-mail of principal applicant (who serves as the contact person)
- Title of the proposed project
Description of the proposal (maximum 2 pages)
Budget estimate (maximum 1 page)
A detailed narrated budget of one page, including evidence that other funding sources are not suitable or not sufficient.
Allocation of CSDC Flex Grants
Following the review of the CSDC Flex Grant application by the steering committee, the principal applicant will receive an e-mail notification detailing the decision of the steering committee.
In order to ensure better accountability we require that all recipients write a one-‐page report about how the financial support assisted them in their projects. The report should also contain a short budget of how the money was spent. The report is due one year after the application deadline for which the funding was granted and should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Note that the Centre MUST be acknowledged in your publications.
