Axis 2 –The practice of democratic citizenship

This axis focuses on concrete elements of the practice of citizenship: the production and consumption of information on current events, the formation of opinions on political issues and actors (including partisan preferences and voting intentions), and political participation in all its forms. The research in this axis examines crucial questions about a rapidly changing media ecosystem, partisan misalignment and the polarization of opinions, and inequalities in citizen participation.

THEMES

THEME 2.1 : Production and consumption of information

On the production and consumption of information conveyed by the news media and other communication vectors,

THEME 2.2: La formation des opinions politiques

The study of the formation of political opinions is at the heart of several projects. It consists of describing and explaining the political attitudes and behaviors (including partisan attachment, voting and participation) of Canadians by means of surveys conducted during federal and provincial elections,

THEME 2.3: Citizen participation

Citizen participation is a theme present in several projects of the other themes. However, it constitutes the specific object in itself. In Canada as elsewhere, more and more voters are taking advantage of the possibility of voting in advance. We will examine the determinants of early voting and the strategies implemented by the parties in the face of this phenomenon.
