Title: Immigrant integration and public opinion in Quebec: Policy preferences, perceived norms, and interculturalism
In contrast to Canada’s federal multiculturalism policy, Quebec has advanced interculturalism as a distinct approach to immigrant integration. Principles long associated with interculturalism have shaped Quebec’s integration policies, emphasizing French as the common public language, intercultural interaction, and participation in a shared culture while recognizing cultural diversity. My postdoctoral research examines how immigrants in Quebec understand and evaluate interculturalism and how their views relate to those of the broader Quebec population. Specifically, I examine how immigrants’ attitudes toward interculturalism vary based on their backgrounds and experiences in Quebec, how their integration policy preferences compare with those of the broader population, and how accurately they perceive public opinion on these issues.
