Title: Between Job Demands and Resources : An Analysis of the Experiences and Mental Health of Québec School Professionals
Transformations in Quebec’s education system, such as reforms and budget cuts have changed the working conditions and organization of work for school-based professionals who provide direct services to students, educational therapists, social workers, school psychologists, and others. Their role which is essential to supporting students and fostering their social and academic success appears to be increasingly challenged, particularly because of their exposure to numerous job demands such as high workloads, job insecurity, and a tense work environment. These factors may potentially affect their mental health, especially in context where workplace resources are insufficient. This project aims to understand from the perspective of school-based professionals who provide direct services to students. The job demands they face in their daily work, the resources they mobilize to address these demands, and how they interplay between these dimensions, influences their mental health. This research also examines the influence that institutional structures may have on school-based professionals. This research seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the organizational and structural factors that may influence the mental health of the population under study with the aim of informing reflection on prevention practices and working conditions that promote long-term psychological well-being. It also aims to foster healthier school environments in Quebec, benefiting school personnel, students and the society as a whole.
