Title: Surveillance, loss of autonomy, and psychological distress among truck drivers: understanding the problem and evaluating sousveillance as an alternative
This project documents how intrusive surveillance (electronic logging devices, algorithmic coaching, driver-facing cameras) contributes to psychological distress among Quebec truck drivers, once isolated from the psychosocial risk factors already known in the trade. It then proposes, with drivers and fleet managers, a sousveillance prototype that redirects the benefit of these tracking technologies back to the worker rather than subjecting them to employer control. The prototype will be co-designed and evaluated in a pilot study with two partner companies, assessing its effects on decisional autonomy, psychological distress, and acceptability.
