Title: Political Rhetoric and Emergency Governance
I examine how political rhetoric enables and legitimizes emergency governance in democratic contexts, focusing on Canada’s 2022 Emergencies Act.
Using critical discourse analysis (CDA) and text-as-data methods, I show how language actively normalizes governments' use of extraordinary powers and reshapes democratic citizenship.
