After learning about and practising democratic citizenship, this axis focuses on citizen representation and governance. Democratic institutions are key elements of democratic citizenship. They link citizens and those in government in ways that influence representation, legitimacy, and accountability. The case for undertaking institutional reforms, changing the way political debates are conducted and improving the responsiveness of governments, is a regular feature of public debate. The humanities and social sciences \u2013 in particular political science, applied economics, communication, and geography, sometimes supported by computer science \u2013 are well placed to inform these debates.<\/p>\n
