The CSDC is happy to present:

Polidoc 2020 – “Derrière les frontières”

Where and when: Friday, September 18, 2020 from 12pm to 1:30pm on Zoom.

Schedule:

  • Introduction by Alexandre Sheldon
  • Winning documentary screening “Derrière les Frontières” and interview with the director, Solène Anson
  • Roundtable on immigration, integration and the rise of the extreme right. The roudtable will be moderated by Prof. Frédérick Bastien (UdeM, political science). Participants:
    • Mathieu Caron Diotte (PhD student, UdeM, Psychology)
    • Audrey Gagnon (PhD candidate, Concordia, Political Science)
    • Allison Harell (Professor, UQAM, Political Science)
    • Ian Van Haren (PhD student, McGill, Sociology)

Documentary abstract: Le Québec en pleine pénurie de main-d’œuvre  attire de plus en plus d’étrangers. En 2018, plus de 321 000 nouveaux immigrants s’y sont installés . Notre projet documentaire Derrière les frontières montrera un portrait en région et en ville de cinq individus âgés de 20 et 60 ans venus du Cameroun, de l’Algérie en passant par la France ou encore la Colombie, afin de comprendre qui sont-ils et les raisons de leur installation au Québec, tant pour leurs études que l’emploi. Étudiants étrangers, travailleurs temporaires ou permanents, ils se confient sur leur histoire migratoire, leur quotidien depuis leur arrivée, le choix de tout quitter, leur intégration et les sacrifices. De ce fait, la montée de la droite au Québec, les manifestations racistes et haineuses, notamment sur les réseaux sociaux permettront d’aborder certaines questions xénophobes de façon explicite
