Clayton is interested in topics related to visible minorities' electoral behaviour in Canada and sense of national belonging. Focused on visible minorities' political preferences, he seeks to develop a better fleshed out portrait of visible minority as an increasingly important demographic category of Canadians, and thus going beyond the traditional narrative of visible minority Canadians as being simply Liberal partisans. Doing so, he proposes a new approach to study visible minority Canadians which takes into account their socio-demographic and psychological reality in greater detail.
