Students and postdocs recipients of CSDC grants – 2020-2021

The CSDC Grant and Awards Program is designed to promote new collaborations among its members and students, particularly new interdisciplinary initiatives, to pilot new ideas and projects and to support student research and training.

Postdoctoral fellowship program

To fulfill one of the central tenets of its mission, to train the next generation of academic leaders, the CÉCD held a competition for a postdoctoral stipend in Spring 2021. An international committee reviewed 4 applications. Two applications were evaluated as fundable and the CÉCD Steering Committee approved funding for 1 stipend.

CAnD3 – CSDC Fellowship

The CSDC, in association with the Consortium on  Analytics for Data-Driven Decision-Making (CAnD3), agreed to fund a methodological training grant every year between 2020 and 2024. In 2021, the CSDC and CAnD3 received 3 strong applications. The Steering Committee approved the funding of Jennifer Suliteanu, student in psychology at McGill.

The CSDC is very happy and proud that CAnD3 decided to fund the two other applications.

Method training Grant

One of our central missions is the support of research method training for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. The CSDC supports summer schools, granted that these schools are not available at a local institution in the fall or the winter.

Moreover, the CSDC created a partnership with the École interdisciplinaire outils et méthodes (EIOM). The EIOM is the most important francophone summer school dedicated to empirical research methods. For 10 method grants, the Steering Committee offered $ 5.000.

The CSDC received and funded 10 applications. Again this year, two CSDC students received a grant from ICPSR (see the names in bold below).

Student & Postdoctoral Research Grant

One of the CSDC’s central missions is to provide an enriched training environment for graduate students as well as post-doctoral fellows. These research grants are meant to facilitate thesis related research or knowledge mobilization ideas, related to the research axes of the CSDC, that are not eligible or suitable for funding from other sources.

The CSDC held 3 competitions. Six grants were awarded, for a total of $ 6,000. One research grant was funded in collaboration with a partner university.

CSDC travel grant

All CSDC students are eligible to receive a CSDC travel grant to make a presentation of original research results at a scholarly conference on a topic that is directly related to the research axes of the CSDC.

The CSDC received 32 applications for a travel grant, and 17 (47%) were for the conference of the Canadian Association of Political Science.
