Introduction

The Undergraduate Student Research Grant provides a CSDC faculty member with funding for the hiring of an undergraduate student as a research assistant. It is meant to nurture the interest and develop the potential of an undergraduate student for research. It is also meant to encourage the student to undertake graduate studies by providing research work experience that complements their studies.

Student eligibility

To be eligible, the student:

  • must be registered in a bachelor’s degree program at the time of the application,
  • cannot be currently registered or have been previously registered in a graduate program.

Value of grant

  • The CSDC contribution is up to 2000$.
  • The CSDC contribution is transfered to the university of the CSDC faculty supervisor.
  • The supervisor is required as a minimum to match the CSDC contribution.
  • The student can receive these amounts either as a salary or a stipend.

Application

To apply, the CSDC faculty member must submit:

  • The student’s CV.
  • The student’s university transcripts.
  • A plan that outlines how the undergraduate student will be integrated into the CSDC faculty member’s research program and how the student’s interest and abilities for research will be fostered (maximum: 1 page).
  • A budget (including the number of hours).

Deadline for applications

  • April 30

Period of use of grant

  • May 1st through August 31st

Funding and tenure

  • Maximum 2000$.
  • The grant will be transferred to the university where the CSDC faculty member is located and must be used for the student originally approved.

Assessment of applications

Applications are reviewed by the CSDC Steering Committee. Each Steering Committee member evaluates the application on the following criteria:

  • Relevance of research project
  • Training environment
  • Eligibility of the student
  • Budget

Reporting

The CSDC faculty member receiving the grant must provide documentation showing that the funds have been dispersed to the student as planned within 45 days of the end of the grant period.
