Abstract:This workshop will outline best practices for collecting and analyzing social media data for social science research. It will first provide an overview of the advantages and limitations of social media data for researchers. It will then offer tools and resources to collect social media data from Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, and other online platforms. Next, it will outline what text analysis approaches are best (and worst) suited to working with social media data. Finally, it will provide an overview of new frontiers in research using social media data.
